ApoE was fractionated by size-exclusion HPLC and cholesterol content in each fraction was measured by gas chromatography. (B) Aβ₄₀ in size exclusion HPLC fractions of extract from human patient with AD. Aβ₄₀ was measured by fluorescent enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Aβ₄₀ was found only in the low-MW region (16 minutes, ≈5–10 kDa), whereas apoE particles (t_R ≈ 8–10 minutes) contained no detectable Aβ₄₀ (<1 pg/mL).
