(A) Cholesterol and Aβ content of apoE particles from patient with AD and aged control patient. ApoE was fractionated by size-exclusion HPLC and cholesterol content in each fraction was measured by gas chromatography. (B) Aβ40 in size exclusion HPLC fractions of extract from human patient with AD. Aβ40 was measured by fluorescent enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Aβ40 was found only in the low-MW region (16 minutes, ≈5–10 kDa), whereas apoE particles (tR ≈ 8–10 minutes) contained no detectable Aβ40 (<1 pg/mL).
