Oxidized GSTF9 reduces hydrophobic peroxides less efficiently. A difference plot of the peroxide concentration (µM) (H₂O₂, t‐butyl peroxide, CuOOH) reduced after 30 min with GSTF9_ox and GSTF9_red versus the hydrophobicity index (ALogP) of the peroxides is presented. The more hydrophobic the peroxide, the larger the difference between GSTF9_red and GSTF9_ox peroxide reduction (Δ[peroxide]). The data represent the mean ± SD of 3 independent experiments. The reduction scheme for peroxides (X) with the release of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and a water molecule is shown.
