Magnesium rescue assays. In all cases, protein concentrations are 2.5 mM. (A) Cleavage in the presence of high and low Mg2+ concentrations. (B) Rescue by members of group 2A in the periodic table. Metal concentrations are all 25 μM. There was no explanation for why no cleavage product was observed in lanes containing Pb2+ and Cr3+.
