Co-expression of CHOP and HIF-1α in alveolar epithelial cells of patients with IPF. CHOP and HIF-1α are co-expressed in hyperplastic alveolar epithelial cells (arrow) in the UIP areas from 3 patients with IPF (UIP) (A–C,E–G). Expression of CHOP (A–C) and HIF-1α (E–G) in the same epithelial cells from serial sections of IPF lungs presenting a fibrotic pattern; no labelling for HIF-2α was observed (I–K). No labelling for CHOP (D), HIF-1α (H) or HIF-2α (L) was detected in normal control lung. Sections were counterstained with Nuclear Fast Red. Original magnification: objective X400.
