The boot-induced mechanism, reprinted with permission of Johnson et al.22 The boot-induced mechanism occurs when the skier is off-balance posteriorly during a jump and then lands on a fully extended leg. The impact of the landing causes the back of the boot to drive the tibia out from under the femur, causing an anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
