(A) E. coli vector pSP73::trpRBA and (B) shuttle vector pCDS5KO::trpRBA. trpA, trpB, and trpR indicate the genes of the tryptophan biosynthesis pathway, from Soton D1. Ori is the E. coli origin of replication. AmpR is the gene for ampicillin/penicillin resistance. CmR is the chloramphenicol acetyl-transferase gene for chloramphenicol resistance; RSGFP is the green fluorescence protein, and each of the chlamydial plasmid genes CDS1-8 are shown (except CDS5, which is deleted in pCDS5KO).
