Catestatin (CST) maintains colonic mRNA levels of tight junction (TJ) proteins and reduces interleukin (IL)-18 release in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis. Treatment with CST (1.5 mg/kg/day) or 1× phosphate buffer saline (PBS) started one day prior to DSS colitis induction. (A) Colonic mRNA levels expression of TJ proteins (Claudin (Cldn1), zonula occludens-1 (Zo1), and occludin (Ocln); (B) Colonic protein and mRNA levels expression of Il-18.
