Distancing may recruit lateral regions bilaterally, but some evidence suggests an emphasis on the right DLPFC and left LTC. ACC = anterior cingulate cortex; DLPFC = dorsolateral prefrontal cortex; DMPFC = dorsomedial prefrontal cortex; LTC = lateral temporal cortex including middle temporal gyrus and superior temporal sulcus; MTL = medial temporal lobe; PCC+ = posterior cingulate cortex and surrounding parietal cortex; pre-SMA = pre-supplementary motor area; TPJ = temporoparietal junction.
