The left subphrenic space is separated from the left paracolic gutter by the phrenicocolic ligament, en extension of the greater omentum. Note the virtual space between stomach and the spleen: the superficial peritoneal layer contains the short gastric vessels, the posterior peritoneal layer contains the splenic vessels.
