Table 2.

Estimates of broad (H2) and narrow-sense heritability (h2) of richness in the root and leaf microbiome of A. thaliana.

Organ Microbiome trait H 2 h 2
root bacterial richness 0.57 0.21
root fungal richness 0.47 0.52
root combined bacteria and fungi 0.29 0.40
leaf bacterial richness 0.76 0.15
leaf fungal richness 0.51 0.25
leaf combined bacteria and fungi 0.31 0.19

Both broad and narrow-sense estimates were calculated from a GLMM that corrected for sequencing effort and other technical artifacts. SNPs (minor allele frequency, or MAF ≥ 0.05) from the 1001 Genomes Project44 were used to estimate narrow-sense heritability.
