Deletion of CTSC in severe acute pancreatitis.
A–C, reduced trypsin activity was found in CTSC−/− mice at 24 h after pancreatic duct ligation (A), in parallel with a reduced pancreatic MPO activity (B), and a lower number of infiltrating neutrophil granulocytes (C) into the pancreas (Ly6g immunostaining). D and E, conversely, serum lipase (D) and total histological damage (E) were not different between CTSC−/− mice and WT controls. F, macrophage infiltration into the pancreas was independent of CTSC. At least seven animals were used for each experiment, and all experiments were performed in triplicate. The values are means ± S.E. *, p < 0.05. Scale bar, 50 μm.
