K+ channel inhibitors do not alter vasodilator responses of pial arterioles to the smooth muscle-targeting vasodilators sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and isoproterenol (Iso). Responses of pial arterioles to SNP (10−6 M; top) and Iso (10−6 M; bottom) were repeatedly tested in the same animals before (control; n = 10 piglets) and after treatment with the following inhibitors: the ATP-sensitive K+ channel inhibitor glibenclamide (10−7 M) and the large-conductance Ca+-activated K+ channel inhibitor paxilline (4 × 10−5 M), applied alone or in combination (n = 5 piglets/treatment).
