Mechanical model of EBOV-host cell attachment driven by adhesion and resisted by membrane bending. Our principal result is that if a dimensionless parameter representing the ratio of bending and adhesion energies has value greater than one, then there is no adhesion. If it assumes values less than one, contact width grows rapidly, leading to strong adhesion.
