Adhesion of Lactobacillus plantarum group strains to Caco-2 cells.
The Lactobacillus strains were resuspended at a concentration of 107 cells/ml in MEM containing 20% of FBS. The bacterial suspensions were added to Caco-2 cell monolayers with incubation for 2 hr. Then, the cells were washed three times with PBS for 5 min. After the last wash, the Caco-2 cell monolayers were disrupted with distilled water. Adherent bacteria were counted by plating the serial 10-fold dilutions of the suspension on MRS agar plates incubated anaerobically. **p<0.01 (compared with JCM1149T; Dunnett’s test, ANOVA).
