| Incomplete outcome data | |
|
Low risk: there are no dropouts or withdrawals for all outcomes, or the numbers and reasons for the withdrawals and dropouts for all outcomes are clearly stated and can be described as being similar in both groups. As a general rule the trial is judged as at a low risk of bias due to incomplete outcome data if the number of dropouts is less than 5%. However, the 5% cut‐off is not definitive. Unclear risk: the numbers and reasons for withdrawals and dropouts are not clearly stated. High risk: the pattern of dropouts can be described as being different in the two intervention groups or the trial uses improper methodology in dealing with the missing data, e.g. last observation carried forward. |
