Heatmap and clustering of all samples based on functional composition of the metatranscriptome. Functional composition was based on TIGRFAM mainroles and subroles. Clustering was based on Bray-Curtis distances. Colors on top of the heatmap represent the timepoints to which samples belong: red, infant samples collected at one week (I1); green, at three months (I3); purple, at seven months (I4); orange, at one year (I5); yellow, maternal samples collected within one week prior to delivery (MA); brown, maternal samples collected one year after delivery (MB). Heatmap colors depict the percentage ranges of sequences assigned to the functional subroles (abundance >1% in at least one sample).
