Evolution of the transmembrane potential at baseline without drugs. Snapshots are taken between the beginning of the QRS complex at 50 ms and the end of the T wave at 450 ms. During depolarization, from 0 ms to 100 ms, the Purkinje network drives the excitation from apex to base with a sharp depolarization front propagating across the heart. During repolarization, from 100 ms to 450 ms, both ventricles gradually return to their resting state. The Purkinje network determines the heart rate to 60.15 beats per minute. The displayed excitation pattern repeats itself identically every 1,000 ms, five times within the simulated time window of 5,000 ms.
