a Pedigree diagram of a fraction of the Northern Sweden pedigree. This demonstrates that all subjects in the study (at bottom, filled = affected, open = unaffected) have a complex pattern of inheritance. All connect to three founder pairs. b Genetic risk scores (GRS) for schizophrenia in pedigree cases (N = 128, narrow definition of illness), pedigree controls (N = 201), and population controls with no lifetime serious mental illness from Northern Sweden (N = 1267). Pedigree cases had significantly greater schizophrenia GRS than pedigree controls and population controls. Pedigree controls and population controls were similar. c As in Fig. 1b but showing GRS for bipolar disorder. GRS for bipolar disorder were slightly greater in pedigree cases than pedigree controls. The training sets for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder were from the PGC after removing Swedish studies. Shown are violin plots with overlaid outlier-style bar plots
