1MedDiet scores range from 0 to 55 and component scores range from 0 to 5. One participant did not complete the Beck Anxiety Inventory. ANOVA examined differences between groups in age, education, WTAR, MMSE, Beck Depression and Anxiety Inventories, as well as BMI, mFSRP, and MedDiet total and component scores. Chi-square examined differences between groups by sex, race, previous CVD, current smoking, current hypertension, and current diabetes status. **,*,†Difference between Low and High adherence groups: **P < 0.01, *P < 0.05, †P < 0.10. CVD, cardiovascular disease (self-reported including history of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, coronary insufficiency, intermittent claudication, or congestive heart failure as defined by the mFSRP); MedDiet, Mediterranean diet; mFSRP, modified Framingham Stroke Risk Profile Score (excluding age); MMSE, Mini-Mental State Examination; WTAR, Wechsler Test of Adult Reading (with scores representing estimated verbal IQ).
2Mean ± SD (all such values).
