Criteria to Consider IMCU/ICU admission for Pediatric CAP.

  • A child should be admitted to an ICU or IMCU:
    • o
if the child acutely requires use of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (e.g., continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), or bilevel positive airway pressure (BIPAP).
    • o
If the child has impending respiratory failure.
    • o
If the child has sustained tachycardia, inadequate blood pressure or need for pharmacologic support of blood pressure or perfusion.
    • o
If the child has altered mental status, whether due to hypercarbia or hypoxia, because of pneumonia.
  • A child should be admitted to an ICU:
    • o
Pulse oximetry measurement of <92% on fractional inspired oxygen concentration of >0.50.
    • o
