The pem1Δ/Δ pem2Δ/Δ mutant is a choline auxotroph. (A) Wild type, pem1Δ/Δ pem2Δ/Δ, and pem1Δ/Δ::PEM1 pem2Δ/Δ::PEM2 strains were grown overnight in minimal media, diluted to an OD_600nm = 0.1, and then cultured for 48 h in minimal media, with or without 100 μM choline (CHO). Wild type and pem1Δ/Δ pem2Δ/Δ were also cultured for 48 h in minimal media, with or without varying concentrations of (B) choline (CHO), (C) glycerophosphocholine (GPC), or (D) lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC). These assays were performed with three biological replicates.
