Because of the crosslink between innate immune responses and adaptive immunity, the function of SAMHD1 in the regulation of innate immune pathway may affect adaptive immune responses. SAMHD1 prevents DC maturation induced by HIV-1. SAMHD1 blocks HIV-1 infection in resting CD4+ T cells, non-dividing DCs and macrophages. SAMHD1 also reduces HIV-1 antigen-specific CD8+ T cell response ex vivo. In germinal center B cells, SAMHD1 increases immunoglobulin mutation and reduces antibody production.
