The effect of fly age and starvation status on the amount of time a male spent courting in his first 5 minutes of courtship (square-root transformed). Graphical components as for Fig. 1; points represent outliers more than 1.5x the 25^th to 75^th centile range. Male courtship effort declined with age, but was unaffected by starvation. Neither the starvation nor the age status of the female affected how much courtship a male directed towards her.
