Simvastatin attenuated LPS-induced apoptosis in the spleen by down-regulating cleaved caspase 3 expressions. Magnification 200x. (A) Control group. Marked reduction of apoptotic cells in the groups pretreated with Simvastatin 40 mg/kg (C). Simvastatin inhibited LPS-apoptosis in the spleen detected by TUNEL staining. Nuclei that were stained dark brown were considered apoptotic following TUNEL stain, magnification 200×. The extent of spleen lymphocytes apoptosis increased significantly in the LPS group (E) compared with rare TUNEL-positive cells in the control group (D), and significantly reduced in the groups pretreated with Simvastatin 40 mg/kg (F).
