Change in embodiment as measured by subjective reports (embodiment questionnaire) between the synchronous and asynchronous conditions (left side of the figure), and across experimental conditions (right side of the figure). The graphs on the top of the image shows mean differences in Experiment 1, whereas the bottom of the image shows mean differences in Experiment 2. In both experiments, the graphs show a significant difference in embodiment of the rubber hand between synchronous and asynchronous stroking, as well as a significant main effect of affective certainty (Experiment 1) and congruency (Experiment 2). Means are shown for illustrative purposes to provide the reader with a more exhaustive view of our results. Error bars indicate standard error of the mean. Asterisks denote significant differences (p < 0.05).
