Effect of pH on HA brush rigidity, characterized by QCM-D. Data are displayed analogous to figure 3, in potassium phosphate buffer (containing 100 mM potassium) at various pH. The insets in (a,b) show strong non-specific binding of non-biotinylated HA at pH 4.0, 3.0 and 2.5. The softness parameter indicates that HA brush stiffening is most pronounced at these pH values.
