(A) Pax3 expression is regulated by Msgn1, expressed in the presomitic mesoderm, as well as by other unidentified factors that contribute to its expression in the formed somites. Pax3, in turn, regulates the myogenic program by inducing, among the others, components of Notch and HH signaling pathways while repressing nonmyogenic lineages. (B) Pax3 binds and remodels chromatin by increasing chromatin accessibility.
