Different STTM transgenic plants displayed distinct drought tolerance characteristics. (A) Drought tolerance phenotype. Representative photographs show plants before drought treatment, after drought treatment, and without drought treatment. Fourteen-day-old plants were grown under well-watered condition (upper panel), after water withdrawal until 21 days (middle panel), and then re-watered for 2 days (lower panel). (B) Quantification of rosette leaf water content. Five rosette leaves of twenty one-day-old plants were detached and weighed at the indicated time points. Water loss at any time point was calculated as percentage of the fresh weight at time zero. Three independent experiments were performed. Bars show SE.
