History of stroke, hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes were determined by respondents’ response to “Has a doctor, nurse, or other health professional ever told you that that you had [condition]?” where the question was asked for each health condition.
Unweighted number of respondents. For demographic characteristics, categories may not sum to survey total because some respondents did not respond to all survey questions. For health characteristics, the number of respondents with the characteristic is reported.
Estimates are weighted and age-adjusted to the 2000 US standard population, except for age groups, which display age group–specific percentages. Categories may not sum to 100% because some respondents did not respond to all survey questions.
