Structure and Biosynthesis of MccB17

(A) General scheme of MccB17 biosynthesis. The gene cluster mcbABCDEFG is color coded according to recommended nomenclature (Arnison et al., 2013). The McbBCD complex is shown as green, yellow, and blue circles. The leader peptide is indicated in green and heterocyclization sites of McbA peptide in red and yellow. Yellow and red pentagons indicate thiazoles and oxazoles, respectively, of the modified peptide. TldD/E is a protease responsible for the removal of the leader peptide, leading to the dissociation of mature MccB17 from the McbBCD complex.

(B) Chemical structure of mature MccB17 (26–69).
