Lack of Intestinal DMT1 Prevents Iron Accumulation in Plasma and Tissues of Hepc−/− Mice

Non-heme iron levels were assessed in Hepc+/+/Dmt1fl/fl, Hepc−/−/Dmt1fl/fl, Hepc−/−/Dmt1int/+, and Hepc−/−/Dmt1int/int mice (male and female littermates) at 7 weeks of age. Shown are non-heme iron levels in plasma (A), liver (B), heart (C), kidney (D), pancreas (E), and spleen (F). Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and are presented as boxplots for n = 6–8 mice/group. Groups labeled with different letters are different from one another (B–D). Data shown in (B)–(F) were log10 transformed because of unequal variance before statistical analyses were performed.
