The synthesis of particle transport presented by Georgian et al.¹⁷ compared the ratio of deposition velocity (v_dep) to settling velocity (v_fall) relative to particle diameter (log transformed), for data collected in flowing waters. We added data for microplastic fragments and fibers collected in this study, with and without biofilms, as well as data from Cushing et al.³⁸ and Hunken and Mutz⁴¹. Abbreviations: VPOM = very fine particulate organic matter, FPOM = fine particulate organic matter, Med POM = medium particulate organic matter, Lycopodium = bryophyte spores. The dotted horizontal line indicates v_dep/v_fall = 1, where deposition velocity is equal to expectations from settling velocity.
