Per capita population (100,000) rates of ED visits by older adults were estimated using US Intercensal Population Estimates from the US Census, available from https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/data/data-sets.html. Age and gender-specific population rates from these tables were used to calculate patient visit rates for age and gender categories. All other rates use population estimates for the entire 65+ population. NS = not significant.
