Inhibitory effects of sodium alginate (SA) on MCD diet-induced steatohepatitis in the mouse liver. (A) Hepatic steatosis was induced using the MCD diet for 4 and 8 weeks. In the MCD + SA group, mice were fed with the MCD diet premixed with 5% SA. Histology was undertaken using H&E staining (magnification, 100× and 200×), and representative images are shown. (B) The NAS was calculated as a sum of the scores of three parameters (steatosis, lobular inflammation, and hepatocellular ballooning).
