Data on tobacco retailers are from the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, 2012.21 Data on poverty and smoking prevalence are from the 2011-2013 New York City Community Health Survey.20 Low-level poverty was defined as the percentage of adults aged ≥18 who were living at <100% of the federal poverty level. High-level poverty was defined as the percentage of adults aged ≥18 who were living at ≥100% of the federal poverty level. A low density of licensed tobacco retailers was defined as <53 licensed tobacco retailers and a high density as >168 licensed tobacco retailers. P value for the interaction = .86.
