SsaI is an early substrate of SPI2-T3SS. Effects of disruption of several SPI2 genes on the production (A) and secretion (B and C) of SsaI and SseB are shown. SsaI and SseB were determined via immunoblotting using anti-SsaI and anti-SseB antibodies. Bacterial cells of strains χ3306 (WT), CS3491 (ΔsseB), CS4269 (ΔssaI; ΔI), CS4270 (ΔssaP; ΔP), CS10072 (ΔP/pP), CS10092 (ΔssaU; ΔU), CS10107 (ΔssaN; ΔN), and CS10135 (ΔssaG; ΔG) were used.
