FnBPB protein protects against histones released from neutrophils.
A, neutrophils were stimulated with PMA to induce NETs and then incubated with S. aureus LAC, the ΔfnbAfnbB mutant, and the complemented mutant overexpressing FnBPA or FnBPB. After incubation, dilutions were plated on BHI agar and the colony counts determined. B, NETs treated with DNase I. C, NETs treated with anti-histone antibodies prior to infection. Surviving colony-forming units were calculated relative to initial inoculum incubated with untreated NETs.
