In the hematoxylin-counterstained sections, large pyramidal neurons with heavy IR are clearly present in the low portion of layer III, whereas layer IV has few labeled cells (C,D). In the occipital cortex, the border between areas 17 and 18 can be identified based on the widening and stratification of layer IV in the former (E). Again, sortilin IR occurs mainly in layers II/III and VI (F), with those in layers II/III localized to pyramidal neurons (G).
