Sox2 is expressed in the dental placode, mostly on the lingual side, its expression partially coincides with that of Meis1 (A’,E’). Meis1 and Sox2 expression partially overlaps in the dental epithelium at the bud stage. (B’,F’). During cap stage, Meis1 and Sox2 are expressed in the developing cervical loops. Some cells from the vestibular lamina and the labial cervical loop express both MEIS1 and SOX2 (C’,G’).
