Adjusted for the categorical variables sex, smoking habits, heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, socioeconomic status and occupation and the continuous variables alcohol consumption and C-reactive protein. Age was modelled as a continuous variable using restricted cubic splines.
