Proposed mechanism for the formation of 4,4′-methylenebis-N,N-dimethylaniline by thermal reaction of N,N-dimethylaniline with T-a. (a) Ring opening of the benzoxazine by nucleophilic attack of para carbon of N,N-dimethylaniline; (b) proton transfer and activation by hydrogen bond formation; and (c) nucleophilic attack, proton transfer to generate 4,4′-methylenebis-N,N-dimethylaniline.
