MossMFHR1 displays decay acceleration activity on the C3 convertase C3bBb. Like mossFH and plasmaFH, mossMFHR1 accelerated the decay of Bb from C3 convertase C3bBb complex in a dose-dependent manner. The OD at 450 nm (OD450) of preformed C3bBb (C3b + FB + FD) without any regulator was set to 100%. C3bBB OD450 (only C3b + FB without any FD and regulator) was set to 0%. Purified extract of the parental moss strain Δxt/ft was included as a control, in equal amounts to the volume of MFHR1 used for the highest concentration. Data represent mean values and ± SD from three replicates and were analyzed with two-way ANOVA followed by Bonferroni test. Some error bars are shorter than the symbol. Analyses were done with GraphPad Prism software version 8.0 for Windows.
