After injury, fibrin deposits inside the nerve while Schwann cells undergo de-differentiation and upregulate p75NTR. During active phases of regeneration p75NTR expression is diminished in remyelinating Schwann cells, and the induction of the plasminogen and of the tissue plasminogen activator (tPA)/plasmin cascade leads to fibrin degradation thus promoting remyelination.
