Proposed model depicting the oncogenic effects of the miR-96-5p/PTEN alterated expression in HNSCC . As shown in the miRNAs-validated targets interaction networks, PTEN is a direct target shared by both miRNA signatures in the tumoral and peritumoral HNSCC tissues. In particular, the oncogenic miR-96-5p directly binds to PTEN 3’UTR then commences the signaling cascade and leads to down regulation of the expression level of PTEN therefore, cell migration and resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy increase
