Effects of physico-chemical disinfectant-exposure on asp23 expression by S. epidermidis cells. The percent increase in asp23 expression of pairs of S. epidermidis biofilm (n = 10) and planktonic (n = 10) samples exposed to 50 °C (a), 0.8 M NaCl (b), 5 mM NaOCl (c) or 50 μM H₂O₂ (d) for 60 minutes. For each sample, three repeats of asp23 expression measurements were performed. Bars represent the mean ± SEM. Statistical difference between biofilm and planktonic cells was evaluated using paired t-test (NS, p > 0.05; ^*p < 0.05; ^**p < 0.01).
