Subtractive analysis of unitary EPSP as an estimate of quantal size. (A) EPSCaT amplitudes (above) and EPSP amplitudes (below) recorded before and after long-term potentiation (LTP) induction. Corresponding EPSP and EPSCaT amplitudes are color-coded on the basis of EPSCaTs, with successes in red and failures in black. The difference between these averages (Subtraction, green) represents the mean contribution to the EPSP (i.e., the unitary EPSP) from the imaged active synapse. The unitary EPSP amplitude from this imaged synapse, however, does not significantly change.
