Zetaproteobacteria OTU network showing the association of known ZOTUs within the specified habitats. Lines connect ZOTUs that are found in the same sample, with thickness representing the frequency of that association in multiple samples. Colored circles surrounding ZOTU nodes show samples where only a single ZOTU was found. ZOTU nodes are sized according to their environmental abundance. Placement of ZOTUs in the network was determined automatically, based on the frequency of co-occurrence (Cytoscape's edge-weighted, spring embedded layout). Dotted lines denote ZOTU clusters common to the following habitats: Cluster 1, metal corrosion and mineral weathering; Cluster 2, ubiquitous Fe mats; Cluster 3, Mariana Trough Fe mats.
