Transient disruption of sustained smooth pursuit. A, Analyses similar to those in Figure 1 but during sustained smooth pursuit from Experiment 3. In Monkey A, we plotted radial eye velocity with no flashes were presented (gray) or after full flash onset (light blue). There was a transient reduction on smooth eye velocity ∼50 ms after flash onset. Note that target velocity in this experiment was lower than in Figure 2 (Materials and Methods). B, Same as A but for Monkey M. Error bars indicate 95% confidence intervals. Note that Monkey A had lower sustained pursuit eye velocity than Monkey M (cf. gray curves in both panels). This monkey relied more on catch-up saccades. Error bars indicate 95% confidence intervals. In Monkey A, each velocity trace was the result of averaging 494, 548, and 530 trials for the no-flash, backward flash, and forward flash conditions, respectively. In Monkey M, 892 (no flash), 974 (backward flash), and 949 (forward flash) trials.
