Diurnal dynamics of leaf starch contents in Arabidopsis. Wild-type Arabidopsis Columbia-0 plants were grown for 19 d in a 12-h photoperiod (160 μmol m−2 s−1) and then left in growth irradiance as a control or transferred to 60, 30, or 5 μmol m−2 s−1 at ambient CO2 (approximately 400 µL L−1) for 12 h as the reduced light treatment, placed in the dark for 12 h, and returned to 160 μmol m−2 s−1 for 12 h (recovery light period). In a separate experiment, plants were left in growth conditions as a control or transferred to 40 µL L−1 CO2 at 160 μmol m−2 s−1 for 12 h and then placed in the dark for 12 h.
