Confirmed diagnosis of acute herpes zoster, pain intensity > 30 mm on a visual analogue scale (VAS 0 – 100 mm), standardised antiviral therapy. Men and women, ≥ 18 years old |

Semi‐standardised acupuncture, sham laser acupuncture, gabapentin with individualised dosage between 900 mg and 3600 mg daily |
